Fishing in Evenkia

Region: Russia, Eastern Siberia, Evenkia
Activity: fishing, rafting

Season: July - August.

Evenkia occupies a vast territory of 767 thousand kilometers in the northern part of Krasnoyarsky region from the river Podkamennaya Tunguska in the south to Taimyr peninsula in the north. The soils of the region, as well as its flora and fauna are absolutely unexplored and remain a mystery for the scientists. In Russian geology the riverhead of Kotui is even known as the Pole of Inaccessebility. The territory is not mastered by industry, neither is it likely to happen in the future. Ecologists say, this region is the cleanest in Russia.

The climate of the region is severe and heavily continental. Spring, summer and autumn constitute 3 months - June, July and August. The rest of the year is winter. In spite of the permafrost and polar latitudes the amount of sunlight during the summer time exceeds the one of the tropics. In July the average day temperature is +10+20°C, the average night temperature is +5+10°C. The water temperature is +8+12°C.

The rivers and lakes abound in various species of fishes, including rare ones (taimen, white salmon, sturgeon, sterlet) and widespread (pike, grayling, sig, loach). The number of fish is greater than the number of inhabitants as there is plenty of fish and few inhabitants. But Evenkia is famous not only for the quantity of fish, but also for its quality. The largest Taimen in Russia was caught on Kotui River in 1943. It was more than 2 meters long and weighed 104 kg. On the Moiero River - a tributary of Kotui our group caught a taimen of 25kg, but this is just the beginning of good fishing in this huge region, unexplored by fishermen. Join us!
